this makes me happy. it means little, will accomplish nothing. defacing a bp gas station sign will not force corporations into acceptable behavior patterns. politically motivated graffiti will not break the chains of graft and incompetence that bind our democracy. no amount of cleverly applied paint will save our ecosystem, nor will it protect those on the working end of our economy who have built lives around the bountiful and sustainable gifts it provides. the whole thing makes me ill, and i haven’t digested an ounce of corexit. the physical devastation saddens me. trying to come to grips with the future ramifications reduces me to levels of fear and bewilderment that one associates with a child during a thunderstorm. then comes the realization that all of this was preventable. that there are human beings this devoid of morality, this hubristic and greedy. then i see something like this and i know that somewhere in this crass, clever and creative nation, a smoking hot hipster girl is swooning over this simple act of civil disobedience. that someone’s misplaced but justifiable rage has ignited in her a passion, an all-consuming desire to get naked with whoever was brave enough to lob that can of petroleum-based paint. girl, i reblogged it on tumblr. i’m just sayin.
